The Konrad-Adenauer-Gymnasium (short: KAG ) in Langenfeld is a municipal high school with 1,048 students who are taught in two buildings and three sports halls. The name of the KAG can be traced back to the first German Chancellor, Konrad Adenauer .

history

The KAG was founded on December 19, 1963 by the city of Langenfeld to relieve the remaining schools in the area. In the first six years the number of pupils grew to 550, which is why the school moved from Gieslenberger Strasse in 1970 to the then new building on Auf dem Sändchen .

organization

The 1,048 students are divided into 25 classes in lower secondary level and three grades in upper secondary level. They are taught by a total of 97 teachers including trainee lawyers. The headmaster is Stephan Wippermann-Janda, the deputy headmaster is Martina Weiß. (Students and teachers as of October 20, 2017)

Projects

At the school, a violence prevention course is held every year in lower secondary level. The school's various music groups present a benefit concert each year during Advent, with donations going to charitable organizations within Langenfeld. In addition, the school regularly takes part in various foreign language competitions.

particularities

In the KAG there is a self-learning center with ten freely available computers with internet access for the upper level. There are also over 2,000 lexicons from different subject areas. The KAG also has a music class. In this class, every child plays an instrument. Once a week they meet and make music as a class orchestra.

The KAG has been a MINT-friendly school since the 2017/2018 school year and has been a member of the "School without Racism - School with Courage" initiative since 2018.

The school is mathematically and scientifically oriented, but also offers electives such as photography, literature or education.
