Konrad Becker (born January 9, 1959 in Vienna ) is an Austrian media researcher, activist, author, actor, composer and producer in the field of art and electronic media. He lives in Vienna and is co-founder of the Institute for New Cultural Technologies / t0 , which he also heads, as well as initiator of Public Netbase and World-Information.Org .

Life

Konrad Becker has been working as an artist since the late 1970s. His work has been featured in numerous publications, including many international newspapers and magazines with more than 3,500 articles, reports and interviews. His work as an artist in the field of electronic media and digital networks has received several awards ( Prix ​​Ars Electronica , Prize of the City of Vienna, etc.) and is characterized by numerous collaborations with well-known representatives of a new artistic practice. He worked in various areas of electronic art and culture: from audio and video, radio and television, multimedia productions and installations, from software and virtual reality to social sculpture. Becker has numerous publications, participations in international exhibitions and events on the subject of media culture, as well as membership in international specialist committees and working groups on information and communication technology. As a book author and writer of texts on the politics of the infosphere, some of which are available in several translations, he deals with the cultural and psychosocial implications of an information society determined by technology. Konrad Becker is the initiator and co-organizer of a large number of interventions in public space and the organizer of numerous international festivals and conferences. As a founding member of the European Cultural Backbone (ECB) and participant in various cultural networks, he made a contribution to the supra-regional cooperation of cultural workers in the field of new information and communication technologies.

As a composer and performer , Konrad Becker founded Monoton , a project from the early days of electronic music . Monotonprodukt 07 was included in The Wire's "100 Records That Set The World On Fire (While No One Was Listening)" . At the intersection of audio art, microcomputer psycho-acoustics and electronic dance culture, genre boundaries have been crossed several times over the years and countless transformations and side projects have gone through. This ranges from meta-mathematical and performative multimedia installations, from industrial noise to audio software, from contributions to the early rave scene to music theater and stage productions.
