Konrad Christiani (born August 9, 1732 - † December 22, 1795 ) was a council pharmacist and senator in Kiel . He was a co-founder of the Society of Voluntary Poor Friends .

Life

Christiani was born the second son of a pharmacist. His older brother was the theologian Wilhelm Ernst Christiani (1731–1793). His father, who also had the first name Konrad, died on June 29, 1745. After his death, Christiani devoted himself to his father's profession, initially in his mother's house, later he conducted his studies in Magdeburg, Potsdam , Stolpe, Neustadt near Dresden and Erfurt away. At the end of 1755 he returned to his homeland. Here he was examined in April 1759 and took over the family business.

From then on he went completely into his profession. In his spare time he occupied himself with the latest achievements of his time; so he wrote a review of the recently published "Londner Apothekerbuch" . In the last years of his life he worked on improving the Danish dispensatory .

In addition to his professional and literary work, Christiani also devoted himself to care. He sold his medicines to the needy at discounted prices and urged doctors to visit these sick people and give them his medicines free of charge. When the Kiel Armendirektorium dated November 1, 1791, drew attention to the need to "improve the poor situation", Christiani was deeply impressed. Together with some other like-minded people, he submitted various proposals to the poor directorate, from which the Society of Voluntary Poor Friends was founded at the end of 1792. Christiani took an active part in this society and the institutions that arose from it until his death. The meetings of the society took place until his own building was bought and a poor institution was set up in his house. From August 1792 to June 1795 he was the Society's archivist.
