Konrad Degen ( October 8, 1811 in Frankfurt am Main - June 9, 1884 there ) was a German theater actor .

Life

Degen was the son of a police clerk. However, his mother later married a master baker who also wanted to educate him for his trade. Alone instead of busy himself in the bakery, he read German classics and secretly took dramatic lessons, inflamed for art.

However, it took a long time before he found the courage to test his talent on stage. Only in 1837 did he succeed in doing this with a traveling company. He moved around for a long time until he finally got engagements in Mainz, later in Wiesbaden and then in Bremen.

Then he renounced acting again and became a baker again. Various circumstances forced him to do this, and it was not until 1855 that he made his debut as "Wurm" at the Frankfurt City Theater . Despite his twelve years of being away from the stage, he had not forgotten the art of acting, and it was with pleasure that his engagement ended.

He remained loyal to this art institute until July 1878, when he retired.
