Konrad Giessmann

Konrad Gießmann (* 1951 ) is a German politician ( CDU ). He was from 2006 to 2018 District Administrator of the district Gotha , after he held this office applied provisionally since of 2005.

Life

education and profession

Gießmann was born in 1951 as the second son of a family of craftsmen. After completing the tenth grade, in 1968 he began training as a skilled worker for rubber and asbestos with a high school diploma at the Thuringia-Waltershausen rubber combine. After completing the basic military service, he studied materials use from 1973 at the Technical University of Merseburg and graduated in 1977 as a graduate engineer for materials technology. Gießmann worked until 1990 as a materials testing engineer in the Thuringia-Waltershausen rubber combine. Then he was head of the testing department in the company until 1994.

Gießmann is married and has one son.

Political career

Giessmann's political career began in the Liberal Democratic Party of Germany . In 1990 he was elected to the district council of the Gotha district as a non-party member of the CDU list. In 1992 he finally joined the CDU. In the district council he acted as parliamentary group leader of the CDU-FDP parliamentary group and in 1994 became second alderman. He held this office until 2000. In November 2000 he was elected First Alderman of the Gotha District. From May 13, 2005 to June 30, 2006, Gießmann was the first alderman in the office of the district administrator, as the previous incumbent Siegfried Liebezeit ( SPD ) had been suspended. After Gießmann was elected in a runoff election on May 21, 2006 as the new district administrator of the Gotha district, he was inaugurated on July 1, 2006. On April 22, 2012 he was re-elected with 63.6% of the votes cast. For reasons of age, he was no longer allowed to run for the 2018 election. Onno Eckert was his successor .
