Konrad Meisig

Konrad Meisig (* 1953 ) is a German Indologist .

Life

He studied Indology, Sinology and the history of religion in Freiburg im Breisgau and Münster . After being awarded the Venia legendi in 1994 for Indology by the Philosophical Faculty of the University of Cologne , he represented chairs in the seminar for religious studies of the Catholic-Theological Faculty of the University of Münster and at the Institute for Indology in Mainz from 1994 to 1997 . In 1997 he was appointed university professor and head of the Institute for Indology at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz .

His main research interests lie in the religious and literary history of Indo-Asia, especially in the study of Buddhism, whereby he tries to reconstruct the oldest Buddhist teachings in particular by comparing the Indian, Chinese and Tibetan traditions.
