Konrad Potthoff (born September 8, 1950 in Zeitz ) is a German writer and funeral orator.

Life

Konrad Potthoff grew up in Schkopau and now lives in Halle . He passed his Abitur in 1969 and acquired a chemical laboratory technician's certificate. From 1969 to 1981 he first studied biochemistry and later philosophy in Halle. At the same time he was the club manager of a student club, scenarioist , paramedic, driver in Algeria and finally freelance author and manager of Künstlerhaus 188 in Halle.

At the age of 15 he was a member of the “writing workers” group in the Buna works , which was then headed by Friedrich Döppe. Here he learned his writing craft. In 1978 his first children's book “Wilhelmine and the uncanny planet” appeared, which was one of only a handful of utopian books for children in the GDR. 1987 came out "Wilhelmine intervenes". The second book contained a collection of stories about the robot Wilhelmine, who was a kind of Mary Poppins of the future.

At the end of the 1970s, his health took over and had to be hospitalized seriously ill. In his biographical notes in Hallesches Authors' Issue No. 15, he mentions that it was not the stress that made him sick, but “the meanness of the GDR system in the 1970s”. The subject of death came into his writing. In the book "Return from the Desert or The Seven Day Ring" he reflected on this experience for the first time, later in "The Endless Road - Conversations about life and death".

In the early 1990s, Konrad Potthoff took on a project that was supposed to “collect biographies”. From this he built the "Senioren-Kreativ-Verein e. V. “and founded the Projekt-Verlag 188 with Jürgen Jankofsky, initially in order to be able to publish the biographies written down by the association members. In 2001 the publishing house teamed up with the Juco GmbH of the author Reinhardt O. Cornelius-Hahn and began to grow. After many years of collaboration, the two companies merged in 2007 to form Projekt-Verlag Cornelius GmbH.

After 1990 Konrad Potthoff wrote short stories for anthologies , magazines and readers. Today Konrad Potthoff works as a grave speaker. His last book "Florian und die Friedhofskatze" is also a children's book and deals with dying. He reads from his books to children of all ages in schools.
