Konrad Simmer (born October 31, 1919 , † January 4, 1999 in Koblenz ) was a German civil engineer specializing in geotechnical engineering .

Simmer studied civil engineering at the TH Darmstadt from 1943 and was there from 1949 assistant at the chair for hydraulic engineering and foundation engineering with Wilhelm Detig . In 1957 he received his doctorate there ( contribution to the determination of the regularities of the runoff process of natural waters ). Then he was a lecturer and later professor at the engineering school in Koblenz, which later became the Koblenz University of Applied Sciences (Rhineland-Palatinate University of Applied Sciences, Koblenz Department). In 1985 he retired.

He is best known for his Grundbau textbook, which was created in 1964 as an adaptation of the book Grundbau by his predecessor in Koblenz, Walter Edmund Schulze (it was first published in 1907). From the 15th edition it appeared in 1974 in two volumes. Simmer supervised a total of six of the editions. It is still being reissued by new editors ( Bernhard Walz , Matthias Pulsfort ) and is considered a standard work in Germany with particular practical relevance.
