Pfaffe Konrad
The priest Konrad (middle of the 12th century) was a poet who translated the Roland song into the Middle High German language.
Life
Nothing is known about the life of Father Konrad. He is only mentioned by name in a self-introduction as the author of the Roland song (around 1172): “I haize the phaffe Chunrat”. This early court verse epic is a translation or adaptation of the old French Chanson de Roland (around 1100), a Chanson de geste .
