Constantine Vidal

Konstantin Vidal (born July 3, 1900 in Oberelchingen ; † May 8, 1990 in Elchingen ) was a German politician ( CSU ). From 1946 to 1950 he was a member of the Bavarian State Parliament .

Life

Vidal was born in Oberelchingen, grew up there and worked as a farmer. In 1926, at the age of 26 - at that time still a member of the Bavarian People's Party - he was elected mayor of Oberelchingen. He was deposed as mayor in 1935 when he refused to cooperate with the Nazi regime.

During the National Socialist rule Konstantin Vidal remained without a political function. During this time he supported high school students from Ulm who were critical of the regime and who printed leaflets against the Hitler regime in the attic of his house in Oberelchingen. After the White Rose resistance group in Ulm was discovered, a friend of this group, Heinz Brenner , temporarily found shelter in Konstantin Vidal's house.

After the Second World War , Konstantin Vidal was reinstated by the Allies as Mayor of Oberelchingen and later re-elected. From 1946 to 1950 he was a member of the CSU in the Bavarian state parliament . Among other things, he was a member of the Committee on Denazification Issues. From 1952 to 1972 Vidal was deputy district administrator in the Neu-Ulm district.

Vidal died in Elchingen in 1990 at the age of 89 . In 2004 the new parish hall in Elchingen was named after him (Konstantin Vidal House).
