Building history

Blackboard with data on the history of the building

The office building was built in 1907 (after author Ralf Lange 1908-1909 ) on behalf of the builders Schneider & Jenckel according to the plans of Claus Meyer. In the air war in 1943 there was considerable bomb damage. Originally the building had a mansard roof , which was replaced during the reconstruction in 1955 (according to author Ralf Lange 1952 ) by a simple stacked storey with a flat roofing, with the architect Peter Pruter in charge.

description

Upper part of the bay window with ornamental gable, above the top floor with "bow windows"

The building is clearly designed as a corner house. With the staggered floor and the souterrain similar basement it has eight floors. The result is a vertical structure through plastered pillars, between which wide window axes are arranged.

The most richly decorated facade faces southeast, to the street Bei den Mühren . The entrance portal is also located there. The middle of three window axes is emphasized here by a box bay that extends from the 3rd to the 5th floor. This porch is based on consoles on the second floor and is crowned by an ornamental gable.

The house is rounded on the street corner, followed by four window axes on Steckelhörn street . Except for the missing bay window, this side is designed similarly to the southeast facade.

The lower floors are set off horizontally from the upper part of the building by a cornice above the second floor. There are three similar floors upstairs. The last upper floor is designed differently again. It is lower and shows bulging windows, so-called bow windows . The unadorned stacked storey corresponds to the style of the 1950s.
