The concert choir of the Goethe-Gymnasium / Rutheneum Gera is a mixed youth choir.

history

The choir has existed since the foundation of the special music classes at the Goethegymnasium Gera in 1989. Since 1994, under the direction of Christian Frank , the concert choir has received several gold and silver diplomas as well as first prizes and special awards in national and international competitions. He has given concerts in Italy, Hungary, Greece and the USA. In addition to works of a cappella singing, he also performs choral symphonic works such as “ Carmina Burana ” and JS Bach's Christmas Oratorio .

The choir combines classical choral singing with rock music, orchestra, electronics, soloists and choreography in various projects. The compositions "Kyrie / Die Sieben Trosaunen", "Rex Tremendae", "Natus est", "The Four Elements" and "The Human Question" were written by the conductor Christian Frank.

A concert tour to Japan or America and participation in the 7th German Choir Competition in Kiel took place in 2006. The concert choir won gold at the New York Choral Festival in March 2015 in New York's Carnegie Hall. Furthermore, the choir undertook several trips abroad, e.g. B. to Israel and Bulgaria. In February 2018 the choir went on a concert tour to Italy and performed in Pisa Cathedral , among other places .
