A concert shell is a type of building that, due to its special shape - resembling a shell - serves as a stage for musical performances outdoors. The concert shell is open to the public that is in the open air. The back and side walls as well as the roof usually merge, the curvature on the inside is usually approximated to the round surface of a quarter sphere ( spherical cap ). As a result, the sound hitting there is reflected in the direction of the audience, which leads to better room acoustics (balanced proportion of direct sound and reflections). The roof and sides also protect the musicians and their instruments from the elements.

Concert clams are particularly common in the parks and on the promenades of health resorts . Concerts (“ spa concerts ”) are more or less regularly presented there in the summer as part of the entertainment program for spa guests.
