Licensed transport company

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The term licensed transport company (KTU) stands in Switzerland for companies that are active in public transport or that operate a railway infrastructure. State supervision is exercised by the Federal Office of Transport .

A license is required for the regular and commercial transport of people . The passenger transport license is granted for journeys with all land transport, specifically

  • the railway (including tram )
  • the bus (bus and trolleybus)
  • the ship
  • the cable car (since January 1, 2007 including funiculars, which were previously considered railways)

Since the rail reform of January 1, 1999, the former federal SBB and PostBus companies also need a license and are therefore also considered licensed transport companies.

There is also a separate infrastructure license for the construction and operation of a public rail infrastructure. Until the end of 2009, SBB did not need a license for their infrastructure.
