Council of Seleucia
The synod of Ctesiphon took place in 410 under the direction of the bishops Isaac of Ctesiphon and Maruthas of Martyropolis . It was the first synod in the Sassanid Empire . The Persian great king Jezigird had called them together, presumably under the influence of Maruthas, with whom he had been in contact since his coronation in 399.
The synod served to centralize the Persian Church under the direction of the Metropolitan of Ctesiphon . Emissaries from the Eastern Roman Empire , such as the Maruthas mentioned above, also took part.
The resolutions made at the synod included: Canon 13: To celebrate the divine service according to the western rite, as taught by the bishops Isaac and Maruthas and as it was celebrated in the Church of Seleukia. This rite is now known, somewhat misleadingly, as the Chaldean .
