Koopstadt
koopstadt is a joint project of the cities of Bremen , Leipzig and Nuremberg for a period of nine years (2007–2015) for cooperation in the field of urban development . This selected model project for the exchange of ideas and experiences is funded by the Federal Ministry of Transport, Building and Urban Development within the framework of national urban development .
The cooperation partners
The three large cities of Bremen, Leipzig and Nuremberg are not spatially connected and have different demographic structures. In common they have their size in terms of their settlement area and population of around half a million each, a relatively compact urban structure and diverse types of cultural offerings and social classes, as well as a similar history of trade and industry .
target
Through the koopstadt project
- a transnational exchange of knowledge and experience as well as
- the comparison of different urban development processes in Bremen, Leipzig and Nuremberg take place.
As a result, communication between cities should be
- Achieving innovative solutions
- Develop new processes
to lead.
Besides, the project wants
- Raise public awareness of the possibilities of urban development,
- show individual design options in urban fields of action and
- Spaces for the commitment open from citizens and the economy.

- Projects in the cultural and creative industries:
- Making areas formerly used for industrial purposes usable by low-cost rents and free space for cultural workers and creative people
- Specific individual projects for this are for example:
- the “free trade zone” for creative industries in Bremen
- the "Werkstatt West / Design Quartier Leipzig"
- the “Vision Weststadt - Experiments and Creativity” in Nuremberg
- Use technology locations as engines of transformation and actively control the changes they cause in their environment

- References to creative and sensible temporary use options for free areas on properties and in buildings

- Nuremberg: Profiling the city center

Process flow
The major project, which will run for nine years (2007-2015), is divided into four phases:
- Concept phase (2008): Development of a concept study as the basis for a successful cooperation
- Decision phase (spring 2009): Official signal to start implementing the concept through political decisions
- Phase of the individual projects (from summer 2009–2012): Further development and start of the individual projects
- Realization and evaluation phase (2012–2015): Realization of the individual projects as well as assessment and evaluation of the overall process
