Coordination of Islamic Organizations Switzerland
The Coordination of Islamic Organizations Switzerland (KIOS), together with the Federation of Islamic Umbrella Organizations in Switzerland , is one of the two most important Muslim organizations in Switzerland . Both are members of the Swiss Council of Religions . The current president of KIOS is Farhad Afshar .
According to NZZ am Sonntag, 'Coordination of Islamic Organizations' sounds more representative than it is. "In addition to a few smaller associations, the organization includes the three cantonal associations in Zurich, Bern and Basel." According to President Afshar, only five percent of Muslims are organized in Switzerland. Calculated in this way, the KIOS represents a maximum of 20,000 people.
KIOS is the oldest Swiss umbrella organization for Muslims. It brings together three cantonal associations and their associations, as well as other associations. The cantonal associations are:
- Basel Muslim Commission
- Islamic Cantonal Association of Bern (also called "Umma")
- Partnership with the Association of Islamic Organizations in Zurich (VIOZ) (not a member)
