Swiss Council of Religions

The Swiss Council of Religions ( Swiss Council of Religions SCR ) was a contribution to the preservation of religious peace and the promotion of interreligious dialogue in Switzerland initiated.

The SCR was founded on May 15, 2006, initiated by Pastor Thomas Wipf , President of the Council of the Federation of Swiss Protestant Churches (SEK). The current SEK President Gottfried W. Locher is chairman of the SCR.

The council is currently composed of the leading personalities of the three regional churches (Bishop Charles Morerod , Swiss Bishops' Conference ; Gottfried W. Locher, Swiss Evangelical Church Federation ; Bishop Harald Rein , Christian Catholic Church of Switzerland ), the Orthodox Church (Bishop Makarios von Lampsaque, Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople , Metropolitan Switzerland), the Jewish community ( Herbert Winter , Schweizerischer Israelitischer Gemeindebund ) and Muslim organizations ( Farhad Afshar , Coordination of Islamic Organizations Switzerland ; Montassar BenMrad, Federation of Islamic Umbrella Organizations in Switzerland ), which were mandated by their respective governing bodies. There is also an advisory board consisting of three scientifically active experts.
