Thomas Wipf

Thomas Wipf (* 1946 in Zurich ) is a Swiss Protestant - Reformed pastor and theologian . He was President of the Community of Protestant Churches in Europe CPCE and until 2010 Council President of the Swiss Evangelical Church Federation SEK .

Life

Thomas Wipf attended primary and secondary school in Zurich from 1953 to 1962 and the cantonal commercial school (business high school) in Zurich from 1963 to 1967. In 1967, the Church Theological School Basel (KTS) followed for three years with the completion of the classical Matura . Then Wipf studied Protestant theology at the universities of Basel , Münster and Zurich . After the theological concordat examination followed the parish internship, the ordination as Verbi Divini Minister VDM and membership of the Zurich Ministry. In addition, Wipf trained to become an industrial pastor and supplemented his training in the areas of ecumenical theology and catechetics .

From 1975 to 1998 Thomas Wipf was parish pastor in Schönenberg ZH . From 1988 to 1993 he was Vice Dean of the Parish Chapter of Horgen, and from 1983 to 1993 a member of the Zurich Church Synod . In 1987 Wipf was sent to the Assembly of Representatives of the Swiss Evangelical Church Federation for eleven years as a Zurich delegate. In 1993 he was elected to the church council of the Evangelical Reformed Church of the Canton of Zurich . In 1997 he was President of the Assembly of Members of the Swiss Evangelical Church Federation for one year, from 1999 to 2010 he was President of the Council. His successor was Gottfried W. Locher . From 1999 to 2002 Wipf was President of the ESE.02 Swiss Churches project at Expo.02 .

Thomas Wipf has been a member of the CEC Central Committee since 1999, and a member of the CPCE Presidium since 2001 . From 2003 to 2010, Wipf headed the Open Forum Davos , which he initiated, among others , an open discussion platform parallel to the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum . In 2004 he was elected to the Presidium of the KEK , and from 2006 to 2012 Wipf was also the Executive President of the CPCE. From 2006 to 2010 he was also chairman of the Swiss Council of Religions SCR, which he initiated . In 2009 he was appointed to the European Council of Religious Leaders .

Honors

2010 Wipf was by the Universities of Münster and Debrecen with the doctorate of Theology honoris causa for his contribution to the European Protestantism appreciated.
