LILALU is an extracurricular education and vacation program that has been taking place in Munich since 1997 and has since been expanded nationwide to other cities such as Dortmund , Ingolstadt , Oldenburg , Lünen and Schwetzingen . Initially designed only as a summer vacation program, LILALU in Munich has been taking place all year round in all Bavarian school holidays since 2011.

activities

The core of the program are all-day workshops in which children and young people between the ages of three and 13 can acquire artistic skills in the fields of theater, dance, music, sport, art, circus and movement. In addition, the linguistic and social skills of the participants are promoted in a playful way . The one-week workshops are led by educators and professional artists, artists and athletes. In a final performance at the end of the week, the children present the skills they have learned in front of an audience.

A participation fee of 150 to 200 euros is charged for the workshops. In addition, the organization solicits support from sponsors and donors, with whose help free places for children and young people from low-income families are financed. In cooperation with the state capital Munich, Lilalu also offers discounted tickets for participants from low-income families as well as from families with low or middle income. Every year 5,000 children and young people take part in the workshops, around a quarter of them at a discount, according to the provider. In the first half of 2016, over 800 places were allocated at a discount.

Since 2013, Lilalu, in cooperation with the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees, has been offering targeted support measures for young people with a migration background who would like to work as a holiday supervisor at Lilalu. During the summer workshops 2013 (five weeks) 60 holiday carers from 28 nations worked at Lilalu. The proportion of holiday carers with a migration background is around 30 percent.

In addition to the workshops, there will be a supporting program for the whole family during the summer festival under the motto "Free & Outside", which includes a creative workshop, the "Antigon" workshop leader show, taster workshops and other program items. According to the company's own information, more than 60,000 visitors came to the festival site in Munich's Olympic Park in 2013 .

As part of the all-day care, Lilalu also offers educational programs in schools. Lilalu is also a regular guest at events such as the Streetlife Festival with its own family program and free trial workshops .

Sponsorship

Until 2006, the program was supported by the social department of the City of Munich. On behalf of the city, the concept was developed and implemented by Anna Seliger, social and educational expert. After the city of Munich withdrew from the project in the course of austerity measures, Lilalu eV, recognized as a non-profit organization, took over the sponsorship. When the association had to file for bankruptcy at the beginning of 2012, the Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe took over the project and the ten full-time employees. After internal discussions about the further educational course of the project, Johanniter Unfall Hilfe separated from the founders of the project idea.

Sponsor

Politicians Dieter Reiter , Martin Neumeyer and Winfried Kretschmann have taken on patronage over the program or individual parts . Lilalu is also supported by so-called mentors, including the actors Suzanne von Borsody , Sissi Perlinger , Max von Thun and Heio von Stetten and the television presenter Ralph Caspers .
