Korinthenkacker (female Korinthenkackerin ) is a crudely disparaging expression for someone who is experienced as petty or pedantic . The Duden lists pedant and bureaucrat as synonyms . The metaphorical word formation of the compound refers to the corinth , a small-berry, mostly seedless, black-brown raisin with a strong taste, produced by drying fruits of real grapevines of the Korinthiaki variety , named after the Greek city of Corinth .

The expression used pejoratively is mostly used to refer to people whose approach appears to be a hindrance to the speaker, but who does not appear to be formally open to attack or refutable in terms of content. From the point of view of the offender, the Korinthenkacker wants to describe or regulate things down to the smallest detail. The representations and perspectives may well be correct, but they seem like pedantry or Korinthenkackerei (emphasis on -ei ) often felt opinionated .

The expression is known throughout the German-speaking area. Regional expressions with a similar meaning are, for example, Krümelkacker , bean counter , Beckmesser , Griffelspitzer and (in southern Baden and Switzerland) Tüpflischisser or Pünktlischiesser . In Austria, the term i-Tüpferl-Reiter is also used. Model builders also speak of the rivet counter .

Translated into Dutch , the word has a different denotation . Here is Krentenkakker - as a literal translation of "Korinthenkacker" - more of a stingy man meant a pedantic person whereas as Muggenzifter ( "Mosquito Sieber") or as Mierenneuker ( "ants fucker") abused is similar to Flueknepper ( "Flying fucker") in Danish or the Pilkunnussija (" comma ficker") in Finnish . The English nitpicker does not refer to rivet , but nits (egg cases of lice ).

Trivia

According to a judgment of the District Court of Emmendingen in 2014, the statement "Korinthenkackerei" as a criticism of the conduct of a law enforcement officer in connection with the issuing of a parking ticket for wrong parking does not, under certain circumstances, constitute an insult in the criminal sense.
