description

The entrance to the Kornäcker cave is almost 700 meters north of the entrance to the Eberstadt stalactite cave, a direct continuation of the cave course. After a narrow shaft, the cave becomes about three meters wide and two meters high. About 30 meters behind the entrance it widens into a hall, from which two corridors branch off. After 15 meters, the northern corridor leads to another hall over 20 meters high. The cave ends at a so far insurmountable fall, its total length is 220 meters. The cave runs exactly parallel to the third known cave in this area, the Hollow Stone . The size of the halls suggests that the cave system continues behind the fall. In the Kornäcker cave there are only a few stalactites compared to the Eberstadt stalactite cave . As the cave is difficult to access, it is not open to the general public.

history

Already during the exploration of the Eberstadt stalactite cave, it was concluded from the deposits of a cave stream at the end of the accessible part that the cave continued to run. Measurements on the earth's surface also supported this assumption.

On March 24, 2006, blasting work was carried out in the quarry behind the Eberstadt stalactite cave. Wall sintering was found in an exposed transverse warping of the rock . During an investigation on March 29, 2006, experts from the Geological State Office of Baden-Württemberg suspected that the fissure forms the entrance to a cave. A more detailed investigation was not possible due to the risk of collapse. A few days later, the rock face collapsed over the fault, exposing the entrance to the cave. According to their position in Won grain fields , the cave was named grain fields cave .
