The Kornhaus is a listed half-timbered building on the Ameide in Detmold in the Lippe district ( North Rhine-Westphalia ).

History and architecture

Older publications indicate the late 17th century as the construction time. For example, the town of Detmold's monuments register dates back to 1695. However, more recent sources date the building to 1587 and attribute it to the builder Iggenhausen, who was also involved in the half-timbered design of the Oesterholz hunting lodge .

The elongated, three-storey half-timbered building with a gable roof and two attic storeys originally served as the granary of the Schieder dairy and is the oldest preserved building. The owner of the dairy at the time, Count Simon VI, is considered to be the client . It was demolished in Schieder from 1955 onwards because it was in disrepair and professionally restored to its current location in Detmold in the years up to 1958. Since then it has been part of the Lippe State Museum and mainly houses local history exhibits.

Since May 15, 1985 the building has been registered under number 91 in the list of monuments of the city of Detmold .
