Koronis (daughter of Koroneus)
Koronis ( Greek Κορωνίς , Latin Coronis ) is a figure in Greek mythology . For other figures of the same name, see Koronis .
She is the daughter of the Phocian king Coroneus . The god Poseidon falls in love with her and tries to win her affection, but Koronis shows no interest. As a result, one day Poseidon tries to rape her while she is walking on the beach. Koronis tries to flee, but cannot make fast enough progress in the sand. She turns to the goddess Athena , who intervenes and turns Koronis into a crow so she can fly away.
