The double-towered building is 143 meters high and has 45 floors. The building was constructed in 1985 under the supervision of Kim Il-sung .

Naming
"Koryo" is the name of an earlier kingdom from which the term "Korea", which is used in most Western languages, is derived. The term "Koryo" is also used in the name of the North Korean airline Air Koryo .
The Koryo Hotel replaced an older hotel with the same name but in a different location. In 1946, the chairman of the Korean Democratic Party, Cho Man-sik , was placed under house arrest for some time.
Furnishing
The hotel has 500 rooms. The rooms are equipped with a minibar and a television with international channels.
The Koryo Hotel has five restaurants, including a revolving restaurant on the 45th floor, a Japanese restaurant and a Korean grill restaurant, as well as several bars and cafes. On the ground floor there is a grocery store and a souvenir shop, among other things. The hotel also has two cinemas with 200 and 70 seats, a swimming pool, a billiard room and a bookshop. There is a casino with slot machines in the basement . The hotel also has smaller meeting rooms and banquet halls.
