Kosmos 47 is the code name for an unmanned flight of the Soviet spaceship Vozhod , which carried out tests in preparation for the flight of Vozhod 1 in earth orbit in October 1964 . It was customary in the Soviet Union to give official names only to successful missions. Failed flights were mostly not announced at all and test flights were only announced under the general cover name Kosmos.
The flight
The launch took place on October 6 at 07:12 UT from the Soviet spaceport Baikonur on board a Vozhod rocket . All systems were tested in space for 24 hours. The landing took place on October 7, 1964 at 07:30 UT.
