Kostas Vomvolos

Kostas Vomvolos ( Greek Κώστας Βόμβολος , * 1959 ) is a Greek musician especially in the field of world music and ethno jazz has emerged. His main instruments are the accordion and the zither kanun .

Live and act

Vomvolos studied music at the Conservatory of Thessaloniki and medicine at the State University. He studied the role of choral singing in ancient Greek tragedy and composed the music for more than fifty plays in Greece, Great Britain and Ireland.

In 1994 he founded the group Primavera en Salonico ( Aniksi sti Saloniki ), with whom he undertook worldwide tours alongside the singer Savina Yannatou and for which he arranged and orchestrated five CDs. He is also a member of the Winter Swimmers group ( Heimerini Kolimvites ) and the ethnojazz trio Wutu Wupatou (with Floros Floridis and Mihalis Siganidis ). In 2004 he founded the Trio for New Music Tabaco .

Vomvolos arranged and produced several albums of traditional Greek music, including Sephardic Folk Songs from Salonica and Songs from the Mediterranean Sea . He also released several albums with his own theatrical music. He teaches at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki .
