Kothagudem is a city in the Indian state of Telangana .
The city is part of the Bhadradri Kothagudem district . Kothagudem has the status of a municipality . The city is divided into 17 wards . On the cut-off date of the 2011 census, it had 79,819 inhabitants, of whom 39,001 were men and 40,818 women . The literacy rate in 2011 was 81.2%, below the national average for cities. Hindus make up the majority of the city's population with a share of around 82%. Muslims form a minority with a share of around 14%.
