Kotu (also: Kotoo ) is an island in the south of Ha'apai in the Pacific . Politically, it belongs to the Kingdom of Tonga . The island has about 180 inhabitants.

geography

The motu is located on the western edge of the atoll in the area of Lulunga near Putuputua and Matuku . It gives its name to the small archipelago, which stretches from the island to the southeast with numerous small reefs and the islands of Kito , Lutueki , Foua , Teaupa and Tungua . To the west, the Hakau Kopau reef forms a natural protective wall against the open ocean.

climate

The climate is tropical hot, but is tempered by constantly blowing winds. Like the other islands of the Ha'apai group, Kotu is occasionally hit by cyclones .
