The village of Koukounaries ( Greek Κουκουναριές ( f. Pl. )) Is located on the Sporades island of Skiathos . The village is known for its beach of the same name.
geography
Koukounaries is located at the southwest end of Skiathos and opens south into a bay that is partially silted up. In this environment, the lagoon Strofylia (λιμνοθάλασσα Στροφυλιά, dt. Is pomace ), after which the place was named earlier. The lagoon is under nature protection. The 2011 census came to 119 inhabitants together with the Maratha (Μάραθα) residential area. To the west border the villages Troullos (Τρούλλος) and Zorbades (Ζορμπάδες). Most of the area is forested and the " local mountain" is the Trachalomandra (Τραχαλόμαντρα).
Attractions
Koukounaries is known for its beaches, especially for the beach of the same name, which is also known as Chrysi Ammos (Χρυσή Άμμος, dt. Golden sand). It is considered to be one of the most beautiful beaches in Europe. There are a number of hotels, restaurants and food stalls. Further beaches stretch north along the west coast: Banana (Μπανάνα), Ormos Elias (όρμος Ελιάς - Bay of the Olive Tree), the port of Xerxi (λιμάνι του Ξέρξη), and Agia Eleni (Αγία Ελένη).

The popular beach attracts thousands of tourists every year. There are opportunities for water skiing, boating and diving.
history
In the period after the Second World War , the place belonged to Nikolaos Armamentos (Νικόλαος Αρμαμέντος), who had the Xenia Hotel built, but was soon expropriated . The hotel is still empty today.
