Koutsounari ( Greek Κουτσουνάρι ( n. Sg. )) Is a place on the Greek island of Crete . It is located in the municipality of Ierapetra and belongs to the local community of Agios Ioannis . In 2011 Koutsounari had 566 inhabitants.

location

Koutsounari is located on the southeast coast of the island, near the narrowest part of Crete. The village is located south of the Thripti Mountains at an average height of 59 m. The distance to Ierapetra is about 9 km. The neighboring village of Ferma begins a few hundred meters east of Koutsounari on the road from Ierapetra to Makrys Gialos .

history

Koutsounari was recognized as a settlement of the then rural community of Agios Ioannis in 1961 and became its administrative seat in 1984. With the municipal reform in 1997 , it was incorporated into Ierapetra.
