The Royal Brewery Krušovice AG (Czech Královský pivovar Krušovice, a. S. ) In Krušovice (German Kruschowitz ) is one of the oldest breweries in Bohemia .
history
The Krušovice brewery was founded on the basis of the St. Wenceslas Treaty (Svatováclavská smlouva) of 1517, which allowed the nobles to brew beer on their estates. The exact year of origin, which must be between 1517 and 1581, is not known. The first written mention comes from 1581, when Jiří Bírka von Násile, the first proven owner, offered the Rudolf II brewery for sale. At that time it consisted of a fermentation cellar, six beer cellars, two hop fields, two mills and a free bar. Two years later the brewery actually came into the possession of the Bohemian crown when Rudolf II assigned it to the Křivokláter (Pürglitzer) rule after purchasing it in 1583 . The emperor also had the beer delivered to Prague Castle.
In 1685 Ernst Joseph von Waldstein acquired the brewery. He had a new malt house and a new mill built. After Waldstein's death, his daughter Marie brought Krušovic as a dowry to the Fürstenberg dynasty in 1733 . The Fürstenbergs installed a new steam engine and converted the malt kiln, kiln, brewhouse and cooling systems.
Due to the location of the brewery near the trade route to Prague and the local ingredients barley, hops and good brewing water from the Křivoklát forests, the company developed very successfully.
On November 15, 1945, the brewery was nationalized by decree of the President of the Republic. In 1961 it became part of the state-owned national enterprise Středočeské pivovary np ( Central Bohemian Breweries ). In 1991 the company became independent again, but remained state-owned.
On January 1, 1992, the Krušovice Brewery was converted into a joint stock company and the first filling line for keg barrels in the Czech Republic was installed there. In addition, beer exports to the USA and Great Britain began. In 1994 the Binding Group (since 2002 the Radeberger Group ) bought the brewery and continued to modernize it. A year later, the name of the company was changed to Royal Krušovice Brewery and a new logo was designed. Starting in 1996, the beer bottling capacity could be further expanded, a newly built brewhouse went into operation in September 1999, and two years later the old brewhouse was dismantled and torn down.
In June 2007, the Radeberger Group sold the brewery to Heineken .
