Crow Street
The Krähenstraße is a street in Lübeck's old town .
location
The approximately 160 meter long Krähenstraße is located in the southeastern part of the old town island, in the Johannis Quartier . It begins as an extension of Wahmstraße at the intersection with Balauerfohr , runs eastwards and is crossed by An der Mauer at its end, just before the Elbe-Lübeck Canal . Its continuation is the Rehderbrücke , which continues over the canal to Moltkestrasse .
history
The Krähenstraße was first mentioned in 1280 with the Low German name Kreienstrate . In 1293 the Latin form Platea Cornicum is documented, two years later the mixed Low German-Latin name Platea Kreien . The current name was officially established in 1852.
The air raid of March 29, 1942 destroyed most of the historical buildings that had been largely in place until then. Some surviving buildings on the north side of the street, including a large granary , were demolished in the 1950s to make room for the widening with which the Krähenstraße was led straight into Wahmstraße instead of pivoting as before. As a result, the Krähenstraße was given a square-like extension at its western end, which, however, was not designed in terms of urban planning and is a pure parking lot . The new construction was carried out with simple functional buildings in the style of the post-war years.
