The Rehderbrücke is a street and bridge of the same name on the edge of Lübeck's old town .

location

Bunker at the Rehderbrücke

The approximately 270 meter long Rehder Bridge is located on the southeastern edge of the old town island. It begins as an extension of the Krähenstraße at the intersection with the street An der Mauer and runs eastward through the Lübeck ramparts , where it crosses the Elbe-Lübeck Canal (here called Canal Trave ) until it meets the Hüxtertorallee and in the Moltkestraße passes. At the corner of An der Mauer, a bunker in the form of a Lübeck fortification tower reminds of the time of the Second World War . The culvert of the Wakenitz ends on the other side of the street with its inlet into the crow pond and the associated control house.

history

The road and bridge were only built in 1935/36 and opened to traffic on July 8, 1936 in order to create a better connection between the districts of St. Jürgen and St. Gertrud and the city center, since until then the Hüxterdamm was the only road connection from the old town to the east depicted. The original name Horst-Wessel-Brücke was replaced in 1945 by the name Neue Hüxtertorbrücke , but as early as 1946 it was renamed again in honor of the engineer Peter Rehder , who made various projects around the waterways of Lübeck and the plans for the Elbe-Lübeck Channel had developed. The actual bridge structure is a listed building .
