The John E. Amos Power Plant is a coal-fired power plant in the US state of West Virginia . It is located on the Kanawha River near the town of Nitro .
The three blocks have a total capacity of 2,900 MW. Unit 3 (with the similar Cumberland power station ) was one of the most powerful in the world when it was completed.
A flue gas desulphurization system was installed from 2005 to 2008 .
