The Katowice Power Plant (Polish Elektrociepłownia Katowice ) is a hard coal-fired power plant in Katowice in the Silesian Voivodeship , Poland . The power plant is owned by Tauron Ciepło , a subsidiary of the Polish energy company Tauron Polska Energia .

history

The plant was originally planned and built as a pure heating plant without generating electricity in order to supply parts of the Upper Silesian industrial area with heating. In 1985 two boilers with an output of 144 MW went into operation, in 1991 a third with 233 MW. At the beginning of 2000 a new boiler system was put into operation, which now also supplied electricity. In 2002 the plant had 372 employees. The plant is to receive a new block with a capacity of 114 MW with an oil and gas furnace.

Technical specifications

The plant consists of three boilers 1 × 378 MW and 2 × 158.8 MW thermal output and has an electrical output of 135.5 MW. The heat output is 200 MW.
