The Le Havre power plant (in French, Centrale thermique du Havre ) is located in the northern French port city of Le Havre . It is a coal-fired power station and a former oil power station owned by Électricité de France (EDF) with an output of 600 megawatts .
The power plant has a total of four power plant units, one coal-fired unit (4) is still in operation, one oil-fired unit and two coal-fired units (1, 2) have already been shut down. The power plant extends over an area of 33 ha in the Port du Havre (Port of Le Havre).
Power plant units
block | fuel | power | start of building | Installation | Shutdown |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
1 | coal | 250 MW | 1963 | 1968 | 2013 |
2 | coal | 600 MW | 1964 | 1969 | 2014 |
3 | mineral oil | 600 MW | 1968/69 | 1973 | 1980 |
4th | coal | 600 MW | 1983 | 2035 | (planned)
Block 1
Construction of the power plant began with Unit 1, which was built from 1963 to 1968. The first block was fired with coal and has an output of 250 MW. This block 1 was shut down in March 2013.
Block 2
In 1964, while the construction work was still being carried out on Unit 1, construction of the much more powerful Unit 2, a 600 MW coal unit, began. This block 2 was put into operation in 1969.
Block 3
Unlike the other power plant units, Unit 3 was fired with mineral oil. Construction work began in 1968/1969 and in 1973 Unit 3 with an output of 600 MW was put into operation. As a result of the second oil price crisis , this power plant unit was shut down again in 1980.
Block 4
Unit 4, like Unit 2, a 600 MW coal unit, was put into operation in 1983. This is to be used to test CO2 capture and storage , which is why this block is to be operated until 2035 .
