The Port-Est power plant (in French, Centrale thermique du Port-Est ) is an oil power plant . It is located in the municipality of Le Port on the French island of Réunion , which lies in the Indian Ocean . It consists of twelve MAN - diesel engines , which together provide 210 megawatts (electric). The power plant can cover around 25% of Réunion's electricity needs. The power plant is intended to replace the existing Port-Ouest power plant . The operator of the power station, which employs around 95 people, is Électricité de France (EDF).

history

On October 13, 2009, EDF received approval to build the power plant. The first three engines were delivered on August 7, 2010.
