The Tremorgio power plant , Impianto idroelettrico Tremorgio in Italian , is a storage power plant that was built in two stages by the Officine Elettriche Ticinesi (OET) between 1918 and 1924 and uses the gradient between Lake Tremorgio ▼ and the Ticino river . The machine house ▼ is located in Rodi at the Rodi-Fiesso train station.
technology
The water is fed to the 9 million m³ natural lake through an underground lakeshore at an altitude of 1,800 m above sea level. M. removed so that it can be used as a reservoir . It is led through an almost horizontal inlet tunnel to the valve chamber, from where it reaches the engine house 850 m below through a 1.6 km long pressure pipe, which is partly above ground and partly underground .
In the nacelle there is a horizontal-axis Pelton turbine, each with a generator from Brown, Boveri & Cie. (BBC) with an output of 10 MW . Every year 7 million kWh of renewable energy is generated to cover peak loads , which would be sufficient to supply 1,750 average households.
