The Azienda Elettrica Ticinese , abbreviated AET , German translation Elektrizitätsgesellschaft Tessin , with headquarters in Monte Carasso, is an electricity company founded in 1958 owned by the canton of Ticino .
history
The AET was originally created to market the energy from the Biaschina and Tremorgio power plants , since the canton of Ticino did not need the 240 million kWh generated by the two power plants itself, 77 million kWh could annually to Aare-Tessin AG for electricity (ATEL). Of the rest, 130 million kWh were delivered to the Bellinzona electricity works and to industrial companies in Bodio , and a further 33 million kWh went to the Società Elettrica Sopracenerina , which supplied the Sopraceneri with electricity. The demand for electricity in the canton rose sharply over the years, so that the power plants were expanded and more and more energy had to be purchased. In 2019, around 1 billion kWh came from our own production, 1.6 billion kWh from equity investments and 17 billion kWh from long-term energy purchase rights and purchases on the electricity market .
task
AET has the task of using the hydropower belonging to the canton and of transporting and marketing the energy obtained from it. It is also responsible for supplying the Canton of Ticino with electricity. For this purpose, AET buys energy from wholesalers and distributes it to the local supply companies and large customers who consume more than 20 million kWh annually.
The company owns six of its own power plants and has holdings in other power plants.
