The Blenio Kraftwerke AG ( Italian: Officine idroelettriche di Blenio SA , Ofible for short), based in Locarno, uses the hydropower in the catchment area of the Brenno River in the canton of Ticino to generate electrical energy.
history
The company was incorporated on February 29, 1956. Between 1956 and 1963 the Lago di Luzzone , Carassina and Malvaglia reservoirs and the Luzzone, Olivone and Biasca power plants were built. To increase the storage capacity from the original 87 to 107 million m³, the dam of the Lago di Luzzone was increased by 17 m in the 1990s. All systems - together with the Maggia power plants - are remotely controlled and monitored from the joint control center in Locarno . The plants are licensed until the end of September 2042.
