The power plant Stalvedro , Italian Impianto idroelettrico Stalvedro , is a medium pressure - hydropower plant , which in 1966 to 1968 by the Azienda Elettrica Ticinese was built (AET) and the slope of the river Ticino in the Stalvedro Gorge between Airolo and Piotta exploits.

The water is the 370 000 m³ comprehensive balancing reservoir Airolo ▼ the power plant Lucendro at an average height of 1,130 m above sea level. M. and passed into a 5.6 km long inlet tunnel on the orographic left side of the valley. This also absorbs the water from the Val Canaria , which is near Airolo between the settlements of Valle and Madrano at an altitude of 1144 m above sea level. M. taken ▼ is. An underground armored pressure shaft at an angle of 45 ° leads from the valve chamber at the end of the inlet tunnel to the machine house ▼ . This is located at Piotta at an altitude of 1002 m above sea level. M. (floor of the machine room) directly next to the machine house ▼ of the Ritom power plant commissioned by SBB in 1920 . The water used is returned to the Ticino River.
With the expansion of the Ritom power plant, an equalization basin ▼ with a capacity of 100,000 m³ will be created between the two machine houses and Autobahn 2 , which on the one hand ensures an even outflow of the underwater of the two power plants into the river, and on the other allows the underwater of the Stalvedro power plant to flow with it to pump the Ritom II power plant into Lake Ritom , which enables a more flexible use of the water for electricity production in the Leventina.
Two horizontal-axis Francis turbines are installed in the machine house of the Stalvedro power station , each driving a generator with an output of 6.5 MW . Every year 61 million kWh of renewable energy are generated, which is sufficient to supply 15,000 average households.
