Polydore Beaufaux
Polydore Beaufaux (born November 30, 1829 in Court-Saint-Étienne , † May 7, 1905 in Wavre ) was a Belgian painter and art teacher.
Beaufaux studied at the Académie royale des beaux-arts d'Anvers. In 1857 he received the Belgian Prix de Rome. He spent the years from 1859 to 1863 in Paris and Italy , visiting Florence and Naples . During his stay in Rome he portrayed Pope Pius IX.
From 1864 to 1883 he taught as a professor at the Antwerp Academy. He painted portraits, genre scenes, and Bible stories.
In 1889 he was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Leopold Order. In the same year he made a trip to England. After returning home, he moved from Antwerp to Wavre. A year later he suffered paralysis in both arms and could no longer paint.
