Piotta is a village in the Leventina district of the canton of Ticino in Switzerland . It belongs to the municipality of Quinto .

geography

Like the neighboring village of Ambrì , Piotta remains without sun for several months in winter. Together with Ambrì, Piotta is best known thanks to the HC Ambrì-Piotta ice hockey club , which plays in the National League A. The Ritom funicular (maximum gradient 87.8%) connects the valley floor with Lake Ritom in the Pioratal .

Above the village stands the former Sanatorio Popolare Cantonale di Piotta , which was abandoned in 1962 . Plans to convert it into a hotel were not realized.
