Ritom funicular

The Ritom funicular ( Italian: Funicolare Ritom ) connects Piotta in the Swiss canton of Ticino with the Stazione Piora below Lake Ritóm .

The railway with a length of 1369 m was built in 1917 by the SBB . It runs parallel to the pressure pipeline of the Ritom power plant and has a maximum gradient of 87.8%. The journey takes 12 minutes.

The inclined elevator with meter gauge has been open to the public since 1921 and is a cultural asset of regional importance . As a special feature , the haul rope is led back to the drive in the valley in addition to the route , which also has 4,261 steps.
