The Rockenhausen Hospital is a primary care hospital in the town of Rockenhausen in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Westpfalz-Klinikum GmbH.

history

In the 19th century there was a need for a hospital in the region. The city of Rockenhausen made the building site available free of charge in 1904, but due to the lack of water supply, the hospital could only be built in 1910.

After the Second World War , the hospital reached its capacity limit, and so a new building was built to the side of the historic hospital building in the 1950s. Since then, this new building has housed the patient rooms, while the diagnostic facilities can be found in the historic building.

In 1976 the hospitals in Rockenhausen and Kirchheimbolanden merged to form Donnersberg-Krankenhaus GmbH. This was followed by a specialization: the internal medicine departments were concentrated in Rockenhausen, the operational departments in Kirchheimbolanden. In 2002, Donnersberg-Krankenhaus GmbH joined Westpfalz-Klinikum GmbH.

Also in 2002, the Pfalzklinikum AdöR opened a psychiatric clinic in the premises of the Rockenhausen hospital as part of community-based care. For this purpose, the historic hospital building had to be extended to the rear, the extension was completed in 2001 and served as an alternative location for the renovation of the patient rooms. Since then, there have been double rooms in the Rockenhausen Hospital, unlike in psychiatry, where triple rooms are still common.

In 2015, a new building was built next to the previous nurses' home , which has since housed a dialysis ward . The nurses' home has been used as accommodation for asylum seekers since the refugee crisis.

In 2017, the decision was made to relocate the internal medicine department to Kirchheimbolanden and to expand the hospital in Rockenhausen into a specialist clinic for geriatrics.

psychiatry

The psychiatric clinic in the Rockenhausen hospital is operated by the Pfalzklinikum AdöR. The compulsory supply area extends over the districts of Donnersbergkreis and Kusel .

There are three general psychiatric wards, one of which is open and two are closed. There is no differentiation according to the type of mental illness. In addition, there has been a special psychotherapy station for trauma patients since 2015. There is also a day clinic and a psychiatric outpatient clinic .
