Hospital chapel of the university clinic

The hospital chapel of the old university clinic in Halle (Saale) is part of an ensemble of clinic, functional and bed buildings that were built between 1876 and 1884 on Maillenbreite, today's Magdeburger Strasse, east of the old town.

Since there was no suitable room for a chapel in the clinic buildings, Ludwig von Tiedemann, who was appointed university architect, built a small hospital church in 1882/1883 . It is a square central building of 10 × 10 meters made of yellow brick with a Rhenish diamond helmet. It has a vestibule in the east and a trapezoidal choir end with sacristy in the west. In contrast to the functional buildings of the clinic in the neo-renaissance style, the chapel was built in the neo-Gothic style to emphasize the sacred character. Nothing has been preserved from the original furnishings, as the church was used as a storage room for decades and has not been reopened as a church facility to this day.
