The Krause water ear ( Aponogeton crispus ) is an amphibious species of plant from the family of water ear plants (Aponogetonaceae).

The perennial herbaceous plant reaches a height of 30 to 50 centimeters and forms a tuber and a rosette. The leaves are linearly egg-shaped and are very delicate and wavy at the edge (curly). The leaf surface is light to dark green.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 26, 32, 48 or 52.

Occurrence

This species has its natural range in India , Bangladesh and Sri Lanka .

Aquaristics

Like a whole range of water ears ( Aponogeton ), this type of plant is also offered in specialist shops for planting aquariums . However, this type of water ear is already one of the demanding aquarium plants , it requires a rest period in which the tuber can regenerate itself for longer maintenance. The plant's light requirement is medium to high. It needs water temperatures between 25 and 32 degrees Celsius. It is suitable for planting the background and central zone in the aquarium and can also be used as a specimen plant . Due to its size, the aquarium in which it is maintained should hold at least 150 liters of water. Carbon dioxide fertilization is recommended.
