The Basketball Club Krefeld Panthers was a German basketball club from the city of Krefeld . The men's team took part in the competition of the 2nd basketball league  in the 2004/05 season .

history

The association was founded in 1988 as Pink Panthers St. Tönis 1988 eV. The founders were Hartmut Oehmen, who took over the office of 1st chairman at the new association, Kemal Özokyay, Alexander Kühn, Norbert Vermeulen, Bernd Vermeulen and Arnd Wallerstein. In the 1989/90 game year, the club took part in competitions for the first time and sent a men's team into the race. A second men's team was added in the second year.

For the 1991/92 season, the members of the basketball department of the DJK Teutonia St. Tönis joined the Panthers, which from then on had three men's, one women's and several youth teams. In 1993 the men's team rose to the state league. In the 1993/94 game year, Roberto Lee Cook was the first US-American for the men's team of the Panthers.

In 1994, the club's chairman Oehmen took over the position of player-coach, after having been the team's top performer on the field in previous years. Among other things, through the reinforcement of Alexander Aleksic brought from Mönchengladbach as well as several Americans who were stationed at a nearby base of the US Army, the Panthers rose to the top division in 1995. There they missed relegation in their first year as a league newcomer (1995/96).

In 1998 the team rose again as the undefeated champions in the league, the championship season 97/98 was overshadowed by the death of builder Hakan Ekinci, who died on January 11, 1998 at the age of only 23 years of a heart attack during a game. After winning the championship title, Roberto Cook, a long-standing top performer, retired. For the 1998/99 season, the Scot Jim Helkett took over the coaching post, from which the team separated again in the course of the season, although they were undisputed leaders. Aleksic became the new coach. The Panthers were significantly strengthened this season by the Americans Yancey Taylor and Chris Cummings, the team rose to the 2nd regional league.

In 2002 the team made it to the 1st regional league, the top performers included Cummings, who was now 47, the Dutchman Henk Pieterse (41) and several US Americans. After the rise in 2002, the first and second men's team were spun off, the club name was changed to Basketball Club Krefeld Panthers eV.

The 2002/03 season, in which Cummings had changed to the coaching post, ended as runner-up in the 1st Regionalliga West. The Krefeld team caused a sensation with changing player line-ups, including several US-Americans such as Michael Claxton , Duez Henderson and Steven Key playing for the team at short notice in order to recommend themselves for contracts with other teams.

In the 2003/04 game year, Cummings led the Krefeld team to third place. Again, the team composition had changed frequently during the season, the Americans Duez Henderson and Jason Price were among the regulars and top performers. Since SVD Dortmund and TV Salzkotten, as first and second place  winners, did not qualify for promotion to the 2nd basketball league , Krefeld moved up and rose.

In the 2004/05 second division season, however, the Panthers had to relegate directly after they had ended the season as bottom of the table in the northern season. In 2005 Hartmut Oehmen gave up his position as club chairman to Goran Milosevic, Oehmen had decisively shaped the club as a co-founder, player, coach and manager. In the 2005/06 season, the team played in the Regionalliga, but there was no relegation. In the same year the association was dissolved.
