In Switzerland , the following courts carry the designation district court :

In the canton of St. Gallen , the seven district courts form the first instance.

In the canton of Valais , there are three district courts. You decide on criminal offenses that cannot be the responsibility of the single judge under federal law.

There are two civil district courts in the canton of Basel-Landschaft .

Before the reorganization of the administrative structure, today's regional courts in the canton of Bern were called the district court.

The former district courts of the Canton of Graubünden were also repealed with the “Court Reform 1” in 2000 and their competences were transferred to the district courts, which were also first instance.
